First place and gold medal in classification of technical universities was won by Marcin Szeląg, M. Sc., an assistant in Institute of Computing Science. In general classification he was on 2-4 place, to be finally classified at 4th place (after additional scoring).
In team championships Poznan University of Technology also won gold medal in technical universities classification, landing in general ranking at position 5. Congratulations!
Third price in the contest went to Paweł Liskowski, M.Sc. for thesis “Co-Evolution Versus Evolution with Random Sampling for Acquiring Othello Position Evaluation” supervised by Wojciech Jaśkowski, Ph.D. The master thesis of Mateusz Jarus, M.Sc. entitled “Runtime power usage estimation for various classes of real-life applications executed on HPC servers” (supervised by Professor Jan Węglarz) and master thesis of Arkadiusz Jachnik entitled “Automatic matching of multi-relational structural data” (supervised by Agnieszka Ławrynowicz, Ph.D., under care of Andrzej Szwabe, Ph.D.) both were granted a distinction award. The master thesis of this year graduate, Mr Piotr Kosmala, M.Sc., entitled “Zastosowanie innowacyjnych technologii multimedialnych w promocji miasta Poznania. Produkcja filmu z wykorzystaniem cyfrowych technik time lapse, tilt-shift i HDR” (“Application of innovative multimedia technologies to promote city of Poznań. Producing a movie using digital techniques: time lapse, tilt-shift and HDR”) was awarded with distinction in 6th edition of “Teraz Polska Promocja” contest for the best master thesis promoting Poland.
Prof. Jacek Błażewicz has been named an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to combinatorial models of task scheduling. One of the most important feature of the nominee’s research in scheduling theory is its high innovative dimension. Many of his ideas were formulated for the first time in his papers and until now they define the areas of current research
The IEEE is the world’s leading professional organization for advancing technology for humanity. Up until now only 15 nominees are from Poland.
During the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2012, Montpellier, Francja, 27-31 August 2012 the team consisting of Krzysztof Dembczyński, Willem Waegeman and Eyke Hüllermeier the best paper award for the article “An Analysis of Chaining in Multi-Label Classification”.
Weiwei Cheng, Krzysztof Dembczyński, Eyke Hüllermeier, Adrian Jaroszewicz and Willem Waegeman during the conference Joint Rough Set Symposium (JRS’2012), Chengdu, China, 17-20 August 2012 received the 2nd place award in the “JRS 2012 Data Mining Competition: Topical Classification of Biomedical Research Papers” for paper “F-Measure Maximization in Topical Classification”.
During the conference Joint Rough Set Symposium (JRS’2012), Chengdu, China, 17-20 August 2012 the team consisting of Łukasz Pałkowski, Jerzy Błaszczyński, Jerzy Krysiński, Roman Słowiński, Andrzej Skrzypczak, Jan Błaszczak, Eugenia Gospodarek, Joanna Wróblewska received the best paper award for the article “Application of Rough Set Theory in Prediction of Antimicrobial Activity of Bis-Quaternary Ammonium Chlorides”.
The team consisting of the institute employees Wojciech Jaśkowski, Piotr Gawron, Marcin Szubert and Bartosz Wieloch took the I place in category Junior and III place in category Open in Roadef Challenge competition.
Miłosz Kadziński, M.Sc. received the scholarship of the Poznan City Council for young researchers from Poznan scientific community for distinctive research work and outstanding results in Computing Science, especially in Multi-criteria Decision Support.
