Awards from Foundation for Polish Science

This year two employees of the Institute received awards from the Foundation for Polish Science. Wojciech Jaśkowski become a laureate of the program for young researchers START and Krzysztof Dembczyński become a laureate of the program HOMING PLUS.

Award for Wojciech Jaśkowski

Wojciech Jaśkowski, Ph.D. received a distinction in the contest for the best doctoral dissertation in Artificial Intelligence for the work entitled “Algorithms for Test-Based Problems” awarded by the Polish Artificial Intelligence Society. The dissertation was supervised by professor Krzysztof Krawiec.

Polish Olympiad in Informatics

On February, 7-9 Institute of Computing Science organized the regional stage of the 19th Polish Olympiad in Informatics. During this three-day event the best high school students competed to advance to the national final of the contest.

Advancement to the world final of ICPC contest

This year Poznan University of Technology advanced to the world finals of the ACM ICPC competition. It is one of four teams that will represent Polish universities and the only one that will represent Polish, technical university. The team consisting of Tomasz Żurkowski, Konrad Baumgart and Piotr Żurkowski, students of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science, mentored by Szymon Wąsik will compete with 80 teams from all over the world. Success in Polish Collegiate Chess Championship

During this year’s Polish Collegiate Chess Championship Marcin Szeląg, the employee of the Institute of Computing Science received the gold medal in technical universities category. Also during this championship the team representing Poznan University of Technology which member was Marcin Szeląg received the gold medal in technical universities category.

Award for Michal Witkowski

Michal Witkowski received the award for the best master thesis titled Analysis of Application Energy Efficiency in High Performance Computing Environments awarded by the Polish Information Processing Society. The thesis was supervised by professor Jan Weglarz.

Poznan Open Team Programming Competition

On December, 2-3 Institute of Computing Science in cooperation with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan organized 6th Poznan Open Team Programming Contest. Thanks to joint effort of both universities it was the biggest algorithmic, team programming competition in Poland. The winner of the contest is the team from the Warsaw University.

Award for Marcin Szeląg

Marcin Szeląg, M. Sc. received the Best Student Paper Award during 6th International Conference on Rough Sets and Knowledge Technology (RSKT’11), October 9-12, 2011, Banff, Canada for presentation: M.Szeląg, S.Greco, J.Błaszczyński, R.Słowiński, Case-based Reasoning using Dominance-based Decision Rules. The prize was sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and the Faculty of Science of the University of Regina.
