The National Centre for Research and Development announced the results of the Vth edition of the LIDER contest. The scientific project “Optilion – a platform for continuous evaluation of optimization algorithms” proposed by Szymon Wąsik has been granted funds in this competition. Congratulations!

It is our great pleasure to inform that professor Jan Węglarz became doctor honoris causa of Silesian University of Technology.
Professor Węglarz is well known specialist in the field of computer science and operational research. He created the fundamental theory of task scheduling and resource allocation problems. Professor is an author and coauthor of 17 monographs and almost 300 scientific papers in the most published worldwide journals.
Professor Jan Węglarz is director of Institute of Computing of Poznan University of Technology and plenipotentiary director of Intitute of Bioorganic Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences for Polish Supercomputing and Networking Center. He is also Polish representant in prestigous international computer science communities: EURO, IFORS and TERENA.
This is the eight doctor honoris causa title awarded to professor Węglarz, congratulations!
Students and alumni of Faculty of Computing won in international competition Hello World Open!
Team Need for C formed by alumni and current students of our university: Tomasz Żurkowski, Piotr Żurkowski, Wojciech Jaśkowski taken 1st place in the competition, beating over 2500 teams from all around the world! The task of the participants was to implement an algorithm that controlled a remote car on a track.

Miłosz Kadziński, PhD, was awarded for his distinguished doctoral thesis in 10th edition of contest for the best doctoral thesis organized by city of Poznan. The award ceremony was held on 25th March 2014 in the White Room of Town Council. Congratulations!
IV EURO WG Conference on Operational Research in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Medicine will be held on 26– 28 June in Biedrusko. We would like to invite everyone who is interested to register, the conference program is available on its website.
Poznan Game Jam 2014, which is a part of Global Game Jam 2014, will take place on 24th-26th of January 2014. People from all around the world take part in GGJ creating games together and having a lot of fun. You can join them – this year the local edition in Poznan is hosted in Conference Center of Poznan University of Technology and the competition is open for everyone.
We would like to invite everyone interested in mobile development to BrainCode Mobi#1 hackaton, organized by Faculty of Computing and by company Allegro. It will take place on 17th of January 2014 and you will be able to compete in two categories:
Open – all submissions will be accepted
Allegro – application should be using API of Allegro
The competitors will have 24 hours to create the applications and the best of them will be awarded.
We are pleased to inform that prof. Piotr Formanowicz has been awarded by Section IV of Polish Academy of Sciences in the field of computer science. The award has been granted for his series of articles on bioinformatics. Congratulations!
Prof. Jacek Błażewicz has been chosen as v-ce president of International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS). He will perform the duties of VP during the forthcoming cadence in years 2014-2016. Congratulations!
