Golden Hipolit for Prof. Jan Węglarz

The laureates of Golden Hipolit has been announced – it is our great pleasure to inform that Prof. Jan Węglarz has been awarded the Golden Hipolit. It is the most important award granted by Towarzystwo im. Hipolita Cegielskiego (Hipolit Cegielski Association), and it is worth mentioning that the first Golden Hipolit was awarded to the Pope John Paul II. Prof. Roman Słowiński became a member of The Academia of Europe, „Academia Europaea”

The Academia of Europe, “Academia Europaea”, recognized prof. Roman Słowiński as a member of Academia in the section of INFORMATICS. Membership is by invitation only and is confirmed by the Council of the Academia based on the excellence of the individual in his chosen field of science. Currently there are 58 members from Poland. Congratulations!

Game Developers Convention visits Poznań, 19-20th October

Game Developers Convention will be hosted this year in Poznań again! The event, which is organized by Faculty of Computing, will take place on 19-20th October in parallel to Poznań Game Arena. There are 54 sessions in total, divided into seven theme blocks. There are also 7 foreign guests, who will have their own talks and they will take part in discussion panels. GDC is a mandatory event for every computer games passionate. See you at the event!

Students of Bioinformatics will represent PUT at iGEM contest

Three students of Bioinformatics: Jakub Bartosiewicz, Melania Nowicka and Weronika Krzynowek, will represent Poznan University of Technology at prestigous european contest organized by MIT called iGEM – International Genetically Engineered Machine, in the field of synthetic biology. Their project has a potential to revolutionalize the research on E.coli bacteria. Bioinformatics is a macro-faculty conducted in cooperation between the Faculty of Computing from Poznan University of Technology and the Faculty of Biology from Adam Mickiewicz University. We keep our fingers crossed for their success!

Young scientists from PUT earned their degrees at the University of Luxembourg

University of Luxembourg inaugurated a new academic year on 26th September 2013. There were 67 newly graduated doctors, two of them come from Institute of Computer Science at Poznan University of Technology. Piotr Gawron, Ph.D. and Jędrzej Musiał, Ph.D. worked on their theses on both universities simultanously, which granted them international Ph.D. degrees certified by diploma from Poznan University of Technology and University of Luxembourg. Congratulations!

“Labor omnia vincit” award for prof. Jerzy Nawrocki

Towarzystwo im. Hipolita Cegielskiego (Hipolit Cegielski Association) awarded a silver medal “Labor omnia vincit” to prof. Jerzy Nawrocki, Dean of Faculty of Computing. The award is given for “promoting the idea of organic work”. We would like to congratulate Professor and wish great new achievements in the future!

The government innovation for science program Top 500 Innovators award

Mr Tomasz Głowacki, Ph. D. was awarded in the government innovation for science program “Top 500 Innovators”. He will go to the University of California in Berkeley for 2 months internship where he will take part in seminars on the subject of innovation in science. Detailed information can be found here. Students of Bioinformatics awarded in the competition “Generacja Przyszłości”

A team of students of Bioinformatics: Weronika Krzynówek, Melania Nowicka and Jakub Bartoszewicz, earned an award in the competition “Generacja Przyszłości”. The students prepared project “iGEM Poznań: Design of new, functional biological systems working in living cells” (“iGEM Poznań: Projektowanie nowych, funkcjonalnych systemów biologicznych działających w żywych komórkach”). The team was supervised by Marcin Radom, Ph. D. Congratulations!

XX Polish Olympiad in Informatics

On February, 12-14 Institute of Computing Science organized the regional stage of the 20th Polish Olympiad in Informatics. During this three-day event the best high school students competed to advance to the national final of the contest.
