Young scientists from PUT earned their degrees at the University of Luxembourg

University of Luxembourg inaugurated a new academic year on 26th September 2013. There were 67 newly graduated doctors, two of them come from Institute of Computer Science at Poznan University of Technology. Piotr Gawron, Ph.D. and Jędrzej Musiał, Ph.D. worked on their theses on both universities simultanously, which granted them international Ph.D. degrees certified by diploma from Poznan University of Technology and University of Luxembourg. Congratulations!

“Labor omnia vincit” award for prof. Jerzy Nawrocki

Towarzystwo im. Hipolita Cegielskiego (Hipolit Cegielski Association) awarded a silver medal “Labor omnia vincit” to prof. Jerzy Nawrocki, Dean of Faculty of Computing. The award is given for “promoting the idea of organic work”. We would like to congratulate Professor and wish great new achievements in the future!

Scholarships for outstanding young scientists for our employees

The employees of our Institute, Miłosz Kadziński, Ph.D. and Wojciech Jaśkowski, Ph.D., were granted a scholarship for outstanding young scientists for the next 3 years from Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The government innovation for science program Top 500 Innovators award

Mr Tomasz Głowacki, Ph. D. was awarded in the government innovation for science program “Top 500 Innovators”. He will go to the University of California in Berkeley for 2 months internship where he will take part in seminars on the subject of innovation in science. Detailed information can be found here. Students of Bioinformatics awarded in the competition “Generacja Przyszłości”

A team of students of Bioinformatics: Weronika Krzynówek, Melania Nowicka and Jakub Bartoszewicz, earned an award in the competition “Generacja Przyszłości”. The students prepared project “iGEM Poznań: Design of new, functional biological systems working in living cells” (“iGEM Poznań: Projektowanie nowych, funkcjonalnych systemów biologicznych działających w żywych komórkach”). The team was supervised by Marcin Radom, Ph. D. Congratulations!

XX Polish Olympiad in Informatics

On February, 12-14 Institute of Computing Science organized the regional stage of the 20th Polish Olympiad in Informatics. During this three-day event the best high school students competed to advance to the national final of the contest.


Results of Polish Academic Championships in chess

First place and gold medal in classification of technical universities was won by Marcin Szeląg, M. Sc., an assistant in Institute of Computing Science. In general classification he was on 2-4 place, to be finally classified at 4th place (after additional scoring).
In team championships Poznan University of Technology also won gold medal in technical universities classification, landing in general ranking at position 5. Congratulations!

Results of XXIX All-Polish Contest for the best master theses in the field of computer science

Third price in the contest went to Paweł Liskowski, M.Sc. for thesis “Co-Evolution Versus Evolution with Random Sampling for Acquiring Othello Position Evaluation” supervised by Wojciech Jaśkowski, Ph.D. The master thesis of Mateusz Jarus, M.Sc. entitled “Runtime power usage estimation for various classes of real-life applications executed on HPC servers” (supervised by Professor Jan Węglarz) and master thesis of Arkadiusz Jachnik entitled “Automatic matching of multi-relational structural data” (supervised by Agnieszka Ławrynowicz, Ph.D., under care of Andrzej Szwabe, Ph.D.) both were granted a distinction award. Master thesis awarded in “Teraz Polska Promocja” contest

The master thesis of this year graduate, Mr Piotr Kosmala, M.Sc., entitled “Zastosowanie innowacyjnych technologii multimedialnych w promocji miasta Poznania. Produkcja filmu z wykorzystaniem cyfrowych technik time lapse, tilt-shift i HDR” (“Application of innovative multimedia technologies to promote city of Poznań. Producing a movie using digital techniques: time lapse, tilt-shift and HDR”) was awarded with distinction in 6th edition of “Teraz Polska Promocja” contest for the best master thesis promoting Poland.

Prof. Jacek Błażewicz has been named an IEEE Fellow


Prof. Jacek Błażewicz has been named an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to combinatorial models of task scheduling. One of the most important feature of the nominee’s research in scheduling theory is its high innovative dimension. Many of his ideas were formulated for the first time in his papers and until now they define the areas of current research
The IEEE is the world’s leading professional organization for advancing technology for humanity. Up until now only 15 nominees are from Poland.
